The 2018 Forum on Philosophy, Engineering and Technology (fPET) welcomes abstract submissions. The mission of fPET is to encourage reflection on engineering, engineers, and technology; and to build bridges between existing organizations of philosophers, engineers and scholars in related fields.
There will be three fPET 2018 keynote speakers, including confirmed speaker William Wimsatt (University of Minnesota, author of Re-Engineering Philosophy)

The Association for Practical and Professional Ethics announces the 27th Annual APPE International Conference Thursday March 1 - Sunday March 4, 2018 at the Chicago Palmer House Hilton. The conference program features multiple tracks.
APPE was founded in 1991 to encourage high-quality, interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching in practical and professional ethics. Members and conference participants enjoy connecting and networking with people in their own fields and related fields who share an interest in applied ethics. The Annual Conference helps Association members and nonmembers from all disciplines stay up-to-date on scholarship, pedagogy, and professional strategies in applied ethics.

In this case, Armando, a Brazilian Federal Senator with a BS and MS in Biology, must confront ethical dilemmas concerning the Amazon forest. Topics for consideration include: 1) the biodiversity and ecosystem services associated with the forest, 2) the social and economic issues surrounding deforestation, and the 3) options available to Armando as he makes his recommendation on how to use the US funds. Finally, we will explore the role of Maria as a science advisor and address her responsibilities, as well as her mistake in addressing the press.

The case raises ethical issues including how to establish the value of natural lands, environmental justice, and communicating science.
